Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg finally threw in the towel and decided to enter the league of extra ordinary gentlemen, he announced his marriage to long time girlfriend Priscilla Chan. The 28-year-old billionaire’s wedding took place a day after Facebook’s initial public offering on the Nasdaq stock exchange on Friday. More than 300,000 people “liked” Zuckerberg’s status change, which was accompanied by a photo of the smiling couple in wedding attire in a small, verdant outdoor setting with a string of lights behind them.

The world’s second biggest mobile handset manufacturer after Samsung, Apple has registered the iPhone5.com domain name, signalling that the next model of the smartphone is just around the corner, which will also be the final model designed by late founder Steve Jobs. The tech giant filed a case with the World Intellectual Property Organisation to wrest control of the internet address, which had been used by an Apple fan forum site. The move comes ahead of rumours that Apple is gearing up to release the next incarnation of the iPhone this autumn, with a major overhaul of its design over seen by Jobs prior to his death.
Samsung’s Galaxy S2 was one of the biggest-selling smartphone of the year and guess what, Galaxy S3 is right behind to become the next. As of today, approximately nine million people have already pre-ordered the Android-powered smartphone, with still a month to go before the handset hits stores. The amount is extraordinary, considering the S2 – which battled with the iPhone to be the world’s biggest-selling phone last year – took about six months to sell 10 million phones, and 11 months to reach the 20 million mark.
Technology giant Intel, every year holds the ‘Intel Science and Engineering Fair’ (ISEF), which is also the world’s largest pre-college science fair competition. From all around the globe, approximately 7 million high school students develop original research projects and present their work at locally held science fairs with the hope of making it to the finals which are held in the US. The final list of young innovators who number around 1,500 are then invited to participate in the ISEF. At this week-long celebration of science, technology, engineering and math, students share ideas, showcase cutting-edge research, and compete for more than $ 3 million in awards and scholarships. Chip maker Intel recently held its annual investor meeting where the world’s largest processor manufacturer revealed how to it plans to further shrink the processor. According to the slides at the event, the Santa Clara based company revealed an ambitious roadmap where it plans to shrink its chip fabrication process down to a mere 5nm, with a 10nm process set to release in 2015 and work having already begun for the 7nm and 5nm processes. Intel’s latest innovation, Ivy Bridge chips are 22nm and the next iteration for 2013 will jump down to 14nm.

Processor giant Intel Corp. today officially inaugurated the Intel Solution Summit in Bali, Indonesia hosting hundreds of Asia-Pacific channel partners. The Summit, held from May 8 to 10, will provide Intel’s partner community with essential tools and know-how to deliver solutions to businesses and consumers across the Asia-Pacific region. Often called the desert state, Nevada has officially recognized and allowed Google’s driverless cars on roads on what could soon pave way for other US states to follow. Considered as a revolution in the automobile industry, Google’s driverless cars are controlled by computers processing a combination of mapping data, radar, laser sensors and video feeds. Officials from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles rode in the cars “along freeways, state highways and neighborhoods as well as the busy Las Vegas Strip”, they said in a statement.
Facebook today updated the iOS and Android versions of Messenger, the social network’s cross-platform messaging-only app. Version 1.7 of Facebook Messenger for iPhone and Android, available for download, keeps conversations flowing between friends with three new features. World’s largest chip maker, Intel, on Monday unveiled the third generation of its “Core” family of microprocessors, code-named “Ivy Bridge,” which will offer a 20% performance upgrade over the prior generation. Speaking to media on the launch of the Ivy Bridge lineup, Intel’s CEO Paul Otellini said that these new chips will combine with Microsoft’s new generation of Windows to usher in a new generation of “hybrids” that will combine the attributes of tablets, “Ultrabook” laptops and phones. That could help offset waning growth in traditional personal computers. ”Ivy Bridge” chips will be built using a new manufacturing process offering cutting-edge features, such as 3-D transistors, each measuring just 22 billionths of a meter, finer than any of Intel’s competitors currently offer. The benefits of the new manufacturing will flow across Intel’s product line this year, from server to desktop to notebook computer chips.

When Intel announced its foray into the smartphones arena earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress, no one could have expected the processor giant to actually come up with an ‘up for sale’ device as early as April which is like two months from the actual announcement date. But then again its Intel, whatever the processor giant does, it does it in grand style, like it launched its first smartphone today called the XOLO X900 in India today. The device will be available to customers for purchase beginning 23rd April at a street price of $ 422 (INR 22000).
Finnish handset manufacturer Nokia has reportedly announced a sales drop and a loss during the first quarter of 2012, as it struggles to sell low-range Symbian-based phones while Windows Phone sales remain dull. The company reported sales of 7.4 billion euros, down 29% year-on-year, making a net loss of 929 million euros, compared to a net profit of 344 million euros a year earlier. On April 11, the company lowered its expectations for the first quarter because of surprisingly weak sales, including those of its cheapest phones in India, Middle East, Africa and China.
